A resident card in Poland can be issued to foreigners for 5 years who have lived in the country continuously for a certain period, have a stable income, housing and comply with the law. It also simplifies the process of applying for documents for family members and provides more opportunities in the field of education and business.
This is a real step towards applying for citizenship in the future, so it is important not only to carefully prepare for the request, but also to continue to comply with all the requirements. This permit will be relevant for those who want to fully integrate into Polish society.
What does resident status give: main advantages
A resident card for foreigners is a symbol of stability and recognition. It opens up a wide range of opportunities:

+This permit is available to foreigners who have been legally and continuously residing in this country for 5 years. It is also necessary to have a stable and regular income exceeding the established minimum and to confirm proficiency in Polish at level B1. These conditions are mandatory. It is important that your stay for five years is legal. For example, on the basis of a temporary residence permit.
Can I obtain resident status if I was absent from the country?
+The five-year period of residence must be continuous. The law allows for certain exceptions, but the total absence cannot exceed 10 months over the entire period and 6 months at a time. If you have been away for a longer period, this may be a reason for refusal. It is important to have documentary evidence of your legal stay for the entire period.
How to confirm knowledge of Polish at level B1?
+To confirm language proficiency at level B1, you must provide one of the following documents:
- a certificate of passing a state exam confirming language proficiency at this level;
- a diploma of graduation from a Polish university taught in Polish.
This requirement is one of the key requirements for obtaining a resident card, as it proves your integration.
What documents confirm stable income?
+To prove a stable income, you must provide tax returns for the last three years, which indicate the availability of finances. You can also provide job certificates, employment contracts and bank statements. The amount of income must be higher than the legally established threshold, which allows you to support yourself and your family. It is important that the financial support is official and legal.
What rights does a Polish resident card give in other EU countries?
+A residence card allows you to stay and work in other European Union countries under simplified conditions. For example, you can apply for a residence permit in another EU country without the need to obtain a visa. However, each country may have its own additional requirements for employment. This status is an important tool for those who plan to develop professionally within the EU.
Do I need to report a change of address?
+Yes, this is a mandatory requirement. Any change of residence must be reported to the Office for Foreigners within 15 days of the move. For this purpose, a special application (zgłoszenie zmiany miejsca pobytu) is submitted together with confirmation of the new address. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in an administrative fine or complicate further procedures.
