Questions and answers
What is nostrification of a foreign diploma in Poland?
+Nostrification is the procedure that recognises a diploma obtained abroad as equivalent to its Polish counterpart. It is carried out by a Polish university (uczelnia) authorised in the relevant field, which compares the curriculum and learning outcomes and issues the decision. It is needed only when the diploma is not already recognised automatically under an international agreement.
Who decides on the recognition — and does USPI issue it?
+The decision is made solely by the authorised Polish university (or, for school certificates, by the regional education authority — kuratorium oświaty). USPI is a private consulting company: we do not issue recognition decisions and cannot influence them. We help you prepare and submit a complete application.
When is nostrification actually required?
+When no bilateral agreement recognises your diploma automatically, or when a regulated profession (doctor, nurse, teacher, lawyer and others) requires formal confirmation of qualifications. If automatic recognition applies, nostrification is not needed — and we will tell you so.
What documents are needed for nostrification?
+Usually the original diploma, the transcript or diploma supplement, their sworn translation into Polish (tłumaczenie przysięgłe) and your ID. Some universities also ask for the study programme or proof of the diploma’s authenticity. We check the exact list for your chosen university before you apply.
How long does nostrification take and how much does it cost?
+The university sets its own timeframe — commonly around 90 days once the file is complete — and its own fee, which you pay directly to the university. The sworn translation is charged separately by the translator. Our fee covers only the consulting and preparation work.
What exactly does USPI do in the process?
+We assess whether nostrification is required in your case, compile and check the document package, arrange the sworn translation and accompany you when submitting the application to the university. The university alone evaluates the file and issues the decision.
